The Shrimp Lamp,
Launched in Amsterdam
On the evening of 30 May, in a warehouse in Amsterdam, we hung the first collection of shrimps from the ceiling and switched them on.
It was the first public outing for the Shrimp Lamp. We suspended the collection inside a translucent fabric house — a room within the room — and let the pieces glow.
Which was the idea. The Shrimp Pendant is a sculptural pendant lamp shaped, without apology, like a shrimp. It comes two ways — Cooked, a deep orange, and Raw, a cool translucent white — both made in Amsterdam, in small batches, by us.
It is also Odject 001, the first entry in a numbered archive of objects. We have a quiet interest in the everyday things that have agreed to be boring, and in what happens when they stop.
The Shrimp Lamp is now available.
